Children have paid the heaviest price in Syria’s long conflict. Endless bombings and displacement have replaced their childhoods, education and hopes.

Ummah Welfare Trust needs your help to sow the seeds of a new future for these innocent children. The charity is running free maktabs to educate Syrian refugees and orphaned children.

For more than a thousand years, maktabs (or madrasahs) have cultivated and safeguarded Islam’s pristine teachings. Till today, they remain the most vital tool in safeguarding and growing Islamic knowledge, tarbiyyah and ideas.

‘Lo! Indeed the world is cursed. what is in it is cursed, except for remembrance of Allah, what is conducive to that, the knowledge person (scholar) and the learning person (student).’
[Tirmidhi]

5 Ways to deliver effective Maktab education

Identifying and Assessing Needs

Conduct an evaluation of the Islamic educational requirements of Syrian children. Based on the needs, different regions are assigned intervention grades.

Recruitment and Teacher Development

A stringent recruitment process for teachers and educators is employed. These staff are supported with professional development through regular training sessions.

Quality Control and Monitoring

Classroom sessions are regularly monitored by an experienced monitoring team. This is to ensure the consistent development of teachers and their practices. Children who pass each curriculum stage are also tested by external examiners to ensure a high educational standard.

Providing Resources and Materials

Provide essential resources and materials to bolster learning. These include textbooks, stationery, and other aids aimed at enriching the learning journey for children in the Maktab.

A Comprehensive and Structured Islamic Curriculum

A full-time team is dedicated to preparing and curating learning material for all students from the ages of 6 (Primary) to 18+ (Higher Education). Textbooks, notepads and activity booklets are all meticulously prepared, designed and gifted to students and teachers. The topics covered include: Qur’an Iman, Fiqh, Adhkar, and Akhlaq.
