Over 1,400 people have been confirmed dead, while thousands more have been left injured.

Villages, made of mud and stone, have been completely levelled by the powerful quake, which hit during the middle of the night while everyone was asleep. The full extent of the damage remains unknown, as many mountain villages remain inaccessible.

Ummah Welfare Trust has launched an emergency appeal to help survivors recover. The charity, well-accustomed to disaster responses in this part of the world, is already at the site of devastation. Tents, cooked meals and blankets are being readied for distribution.
