Orphan Sponsorship

An orphan in Islam is defined as a child who has lost his father or both of his parents. In Arabic, an orphan is called a yateem. Yateem is derived from the Arabic word yutm which means 'to be unmindful' or 'heedless'.

An orphan is called a yateem because he lacks someone to direct him towards what is good. Over time this child can become oblivious to the truth and the purpose of life.

Of the many vulnerable members of society, orphans are among the most helpless. This is particularly true in countries where there is little social support and where basic social services are largely inadequate.

The values which Islam has laid out for a loving, brotherly society can be understood by looking at the importance the religion has given to looking after orphans. Taking care of an orphan is one of the greatest doors of good that the Shari'ah has brought.

'I and the person who looks after an orphan and provides for him, will be in Paradise like this,' (putting his index and middle fingers together). - Sahih al-Bukhari

Alhamdulillah, Ummah Welfare Trust supports thousands of orphans in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, helping safeguard their iman and providing them a chance in life where there one was not.

Orphans are supported in Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Burma, Chechnya, India, Iraq, Kashmir, Palestine, Somalia, Sudan and in Pakistan where hundreds of orphans are housed in the flagship Ummah Children Academy.

The cost of sponsoring an orphan is £25 per month or £300 per annum, except in Iraq, where it is £35 per month or £420 per annum.

Transforming a life costs us very little but ensures us a place in Paradise inshaAllah. It is a means of continuous charity as the donor will receive rewards for all the good that the sponsored child does.

PLEASE NOTE. Currently Ummah Welfare Trust has removed the option to allow donors to select the country for Orphan Sponsorship. The reason for this is we need to fill our quotas across a number of deserving Countries. If you still wish to choose a specific country then please phone the Orphan Sponsorship team on 01204 661041 who will be able to advise.
