Bosnia came to the world’s attention in the early 1990’s when a horrific campaign of ethnic cleansing by Serb Christians killed over 100,000 Bosnian Muslims and displaced and traumatised many more.

Muslims in Bosnia have struggled to recover since those dark days over 20 years ago. Around 1 in 5 of them in modern-day Bosnia today live in absolute poverty, with children overwhelmingly deprived.

Alhamdulillah, Ummah Welfare Trust begun relief programmes in this hidden jewel of Europe a few years ago. The charity regularly delivers zakat programmes here and subsidises a small Islamic school in the southern city of Mostar.
