Living in Uncertainty

Read the latest account of Ummah Welfare Trust’s UK team in Iraq:

Reflecting on our visits to Iraq’s refugee camps, and after meeting thousands of orphans and widows, we are truly reminded of the blessings that Allah has bestowed upon us in the UK.

We have also learnt how living in fear and uncertainty can kill a person’s spirit.

Imagine living in a flimsy tent with your many children, in the scorching desert heat. You are surrounded by armed soldiers and cannot leave. You have no income and must rely on handouts to survive.

This open-air prison is the reality of these refugee camps. Five years of this and all you’re left with is desperation and sorrow.

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Whoever amongst you awakes safe and sound with his family, healthy in his body and has sufficient provisions for the day, then it is as though the entire world has been prepared for him.’ [Tirmidhi]

For most of us living in the west this hadith is a daily reality.

May Allah allow us to be continuously thankful to Him.
